Senator Jim Oberweis has been asked to serve as Republican spokesperson for the Labor Committee and for the Environment and Conservation Committee for the 101st General Assembly.
The 25th District Senator has also been named as a member of the Commerce and Economic Development, Executive, Revenue, and Transportation committees.
The Senate’s standing committees analyze legislation dealing with specific subject areas, such as education, agriculture and transportation. Committees screen legislation introduced by all members and usually, only those bills approved by a committee may be considered by the entire Senate.
The Senator is also currently serving as a member of the Legislative Audit Commission, which oversees the State Audit Program, reviews the stewardship of public funds, and monitors action to correct weaknesses disclosed by the audits of state agencies.
Earlier this month, Senator Oberweis was named Senate Republican Whip by Senate Republican Leader Bill Brady (Bloomington) and will work closely with the rest of the Leadership team on guiding legislation and setting policy. He was first appointed as Senate Republican Whip in October 2018.

The 25th District encompasses all or some of the communities of Aurora, Bartlett, Batavia, Campton Hills, Elburn, Geneva, Montgomery, Naperville, North Aurora, Oswego, Plano, South Elgin, St. Charles, Sugar Grove, Warrenville, Wayne, West Chicago and Yorkville.
