State Sen. Jim Oberweis is encouraging constituents to submit a tribute and photo of their loved ones who served our country to be displayed on the Veterans Day “Wall of Honor” in the Illinois Capitol Nov. 5-16.
“The Wall of Honor - showcasing the names and stories our heroes - is a fitting way to honor those who served our country so bravely,” Oberweis said. “I would encourage anyone who has a loved one who served to submit a tribute so those who visit the Statehouse can see and read about the men and women who defended freedom around the world and we, as a state, can honor their dedication and service.”
Families are to submit photos and written stories (max: 250 words) along with the following information: name, military branch (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, National Guard, Navy) and conflict served (Afghanistan, Iraq, September 11, Gulf War, Vietnam, Korea, WWII, WWI, Peacetime, other). Military photos are preferred but not necessary.
Please email submissions to email@example.com by Nov. 5. Submissions can also be mailed to Veterans Day Wall, 309 G Statehouse, Springfield, IL 62706. For questions, call 217-782-1650.
The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs is also partnering with Sen. Oberweis on this tribute to veterans.
“The Wall of Honor allows all of us to remember the men and women who sacrificed to serve our great country so that we may live in Freedom. Please send your Illinois Hero’s story so we can honor all our Illinois Veterans,” said IDVA Director Stephen Curda, Ph.D.
