Senator Oberweis on Audit Commission investigating Quinn’s failed program
Senator Jim Oberweis listens to testimony during a meeting October 8 of the Legislative Audit Commission.
Senator Oberweis is a member of the bipartisan, bicameral Commission that is meeting in Chicago October 8-9 to continue its review of Governor Pat Quinn’s failed Neighborhood Recovery Initiative (NRI).
A scathing audit of Quinn’s NRI released in February has so far given rise to federal and state investigations and an ongoing investigation by the Legislative Audit Commission. The Commission scheduled hearings July 16-17 to receive testimony from seven former Quinn Administration officials who had been issued subpoenas in June. At those meetings, the Commission voted to accept a request by the United States Justice Department to place its investigation on temporary hold.
The Commission reconvened its investigation October 8, spending the morning questioning their first witness, Barbara Shaw, regarding her role as former Illinois Violence Prevention Authority Executive Director. Also scheduled to testify during the October 8 hearing were Billy Ocasio, Warren Ribley and Malcolm Weems, also former members of the Quinn Administration.
