Senator Jim Oberweis has been named a Guardian of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) for his 100% legislative record on small-business issues.
NFIB/Illinois State Director Kim Clarke Maisch says NFIB/Illinois designates key votes in the Legislature that are identified by small-business owners as important to the success of their business. Every two years, the group tallies the votes to determine how lawmakers fare on small-business issues.
“Clearly, legislators like Senator Oberweis understand what small business means to Illinois’ economy,” Maisch said. “Our members appreciate the strong support from our senators and representatives, many of whom own and operate their own businesses back in their districts.”
The NFIB Guardian of Small Business award is granted when at least an 80 percent voting record is achieved on nine key votes affecting the cost of doing business in the state and the regulatory environment facing small businesses. Just 54 of 177 Illinois lawmakers earned the award during the 2013-14 legislative session.
NFIB is Illinois’ largest small-business association with more than 11,000 dues-paying members representing a cross section of the state’s economy.
