Senator Oberweis attends grand opening of Human Milk Bank for neonatal babies
Senator Oberweis recently attended the Grand Opening of the Mothers’ Milk Bank of Western Great Lakes’ new lab and outreach center in Elk Grove Village.
Attendees also celebrated the passage of legislation that Senator Oberweis supported, which requires insurance and Medicaid to cover donated human milk to sick newborns (whose mother’s cannot produce milk) with a prescription.
Similar to blood donation, the donating mother must have a health screening and the milk goes through vigorous FDA regulated testing and pasteurization process before the milk is shipped to neonatal units across Illinois.
