
Senator Jim Oberweis welcomes Loren Abdalla of Fox Lake to the Senate Chambers May 6.
Senator Oberweis is sponsoring a resolution honoring Mr. Abdalla, a former Marine Raider, for his heroic actions during World War II. Senate Resolution 1145 also urges that President Barack Obama and United State Senator Richard Durbin take the steps necessary to award him with the Medal of Honor.
Mr. Abdalla fought in the Pacific Theater in the battles of Peleliu and Okinawa. He was severely injured during the Battle at Peleliu. After recovering at a hospital on Guadalcanal, he rejoined his unit and fought in the Battle of Okinawa. During the Battle of Okinawa, in the face of heavy enemy fire, Mr. Abdalla bravely led his platoon to successfully achieve their objectives.
